Sauber susprises by testing ramp exhaust

The Sauber C32 emerged out on track today at the Silverstone Young Driver Test with new bodywork, featuring a brand new downwash exhaust layout. The new sidepod and exhaust design relies on the same principles as the designs used by Red Bull Racing and Lotus F1. Just like with Sauber now, the sidepods slope down quickly and rely on this downward airflow to help push the exhaust flow down onto the car's floor. Additionally, small tunnels are built in the sidepod, underneath the exhaust outlet and just above the car's floor to allow air to pass to the centre of the car where it is blown out onto the diffuser centreline where a small opening in the diffuser can be used to generate more downforce.

The design change is surprising for Sauber, as it was essentially the Swiss team that pioneered the downwash exhaust layout. In fact it was the only team that though of such a design in the winter ahead of the 2012 season. When the Sauber C31 emerged impressive during winter testing, Red Bull Racing's CTO was quoted as being the most impressed by the Sauber. He was so keen on the design that the team started work on their own version, which turned the team's struggling Red Bull RB8 into a championship winning machine. Newey however crucially though about the tunnels to feed the diffuser with more air, something that Sauber failed to materialise.

In fact, Sauber believed during 2011 that McLaren's exhaust layout was a better option. The C31 was repeatedly tested with a layout similar to McLaren, but the lack of testing meant the team opted to end the 2012 season with the downwash layout. This year's C32 then debuted with a design similar to McLaren, albeit with narrow and higher sidepods.

The team finally seemed to have settled with their design, until today's unveiling of the new design, for the first time featuring a layout including ducts underneath the exhaust exits. The design was however only run briefly, as soon the bodywork started to show severe burning marks. The burning marks, which appear to be more severe than what the team experienced earlier this year in winter testing, suggests however that more development work will be needed to make this race ready.

Halfway into 2013 however, it remains to be seen if Sauber is going to invest much more time into this layout, especially because developments in this area will not be possible next year - as the 2014 rules stipulate a single exhaust exit close to the centre of the car. That is unless the team is convinced a lot of time can be found quickly.

On vozi u World series by Renault, ali nema neke bolje rezultate tamo, tata mu ima love pa može odma i u F1, a za superlicencu nemam pojma

Ma lik je talentiran, nema sumnje, ali tek kao f1 potencijal, trebao bi još 3,4 god provest u nižim serijama da se vidi dal je dovoljno dobar, al ovi njega ubacuju sa tolko malo iskustva, sa 18 god i to odmah na mjesto vozača, a još nije ni metra odvozio u f1 bolidu...

Nema superlicencu, al kod glupave fie to nije nikakav problem, kad je mogu dobiti Ma Qing Hua, Yuji Ide i Chanoch Nisanny onda je svatko može dobit...
Ta super licenca zapravo nema nikakvog smisla, jer bi je sad i ja i ti mogli dobit da imamo koji milijunčić viška...
To bi trebalo bit strogo da je mogu dobit samo vozači koji su osvojili naslov u ovim jačim nižim serijama, ili barem top 5 u gp2, gp3 i f3.5... ovako kad je može dobit svatko. ne vidim uopće smisao te licence...

To qualify for an FIA Super Licence the requesting driver must already be the holder of a Grade A competition licence, and additionally meet the requirements of the 2013 FIA International Sporting Code, Appendix L.[1][2] These requirements state that the driver must be either the reigning champion in a lower category of motor sport, for example Formula 3 (British, Italian or Japanese championship, or Euro Series), Formula 2, or GP2 Series (formerly known as Formula 3000), or must have consistently finished well in these categories. For example, a driver finishing in the first three positions five times within the last two years in GP2 will be eligible for a Super Licence.

Additionally, drivers who have competed in the IndyCar Series are eligible for a Super Licence if they finished within the first four places of the driver's championship. This allows drivers from the United States domestic series to move into Formula One without first taking part in other FIA sanctioned events. Under exceptional circumstances Appendix L also allows the FIA to award a Super Licence to a driver who does not meet the normal criteria if a vote reveals unanimous agreement by the members, and provided that the driver has completed 300 kilometers of testing at racing speeds in a current car.

The Sauber F1 Team and Scuderia Ferrari extend their current technical partnership, which is for the supply of the complete powertrain, including engine, gearbox and ERS in a multi-year agreement. The current partnership is entering the fifth year of a strong relationship that has produced four podiums in 2012.

izgleda ništa od sirotkina... spominju se nasr, petrov, van der garde za to drugo mjesto u sauberu...
