Formula 1 will stream GP of Mexico for free via Twitch
To follow Formula 1 you must normally have a subscription to a TV channel that holds the rights, or you have an expensive subscription to (the flopped) F1 TV. However, this weekend there is also an extra option, because Formula 1 is going to stream all events via Twitch!
Today the partnership was announced via a roaring press release from F1 Media on Twitter. The collaboration ensures that you can stream the Grand Prix of Mexico this weekend for free in Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden via the website and the Twitch app.
With this collaboration, Formula 1 is mainly aiming at introducing more interactive elements in order to promote interaction with the public. Each session will also be streamed by influencers and in addition to the broadcast, additional data will become available to allow users to make predictions about 10-minute fragments during the race. These predictions are then ranked by how accurate they are. In this way they want to add an interactive element to the broadcast.
"We are very enthusiastic about the partnership with Twitch," says Frank Arthofer, director of licenses for Formula 1. "The audience in the selected countries can use the app and the Twitch website for all the action of the training, qualification and "Track live. Twitch has an incredible reach, a unique creative perspective on reporting on sports competitions and an active digital audience. They are the perfect partner for us to work on this project."
