Nico Rosberg is optimistic that Mercedes can end its 2012 Formula 1 campaign on a relative high in Brazil this weekend after being encouraged by his pace in Friday practice.

Mercedes has not scored a single point since September's Singapore Grand Prix, and has reverted both its cars to an earlier development specification for Interlagos, eschewing the much-vaunted Coanda exhaust.

But after finishing Friday practice in seventh place, 0.015 seconds slower than team-mate Michael Schumacher, Rosberg believes Mercedes is potentially in for a strong weekend.

Asked by AUTOSPORT if he felt Mercedes was making progress, Rosberg replied: "Yes, I think it's quite good. Pace-wise it's looking OK.

"It's very difficult out there. Really, for everybody. It's so hot, the temperature makes the grip very poor and it's high altitude and everything so there's very poor grip and it's difficult to drive the cars.

"Relatively speaking, pace-wise we are OK. It is nice to see that, in relatively hot temperatures, it's decent, especially on the long run."

Rosberg added that the change of exhaust arrangements had not made a great difference to the car's balance.

"It's very similar," he said. "Set-up wise we have to change a few things, but otherwise it's similar."

Jutros nešto razmišljam o odlasku Hamiltona iz McLarena, i onda se zapitao kako će Rosberg funkcionirati uz njega. Bacio oko na dosadašnji tijek F1 karijere i stanje je ovako:

2007: Rosberg - 20, Wurz - 13, Nakajima - 0,
2008: Rosberg - 17, Nakajima - 9,
2009: Rosberg - 34.5, Nakajima - 0.
Onda dolazi novi bodovni sustav, ali prebacio sam plasmane na stari (možda sam i pogriješio koji bod), radi lakše usporedbe.
2010: Rosberg - 55, MSC - 25,
2011: Rosberg - 30, MSC - 27,
2012: Rosberg - 36, MSC - 17.
Dakle, osim prve godine, sve ostale bio je uspješniji od kolega iz momčadi. Ako ćemo gledat kvalitetu tih kolega, njihova kvaliteta je dvojbena (molim navijače MSC-a da se obuzdaju) i mislim da mu sad dolazi istniski test sposobnosti. Hamilton je u vrhunskoj formi, i ako ostane slično i sljedeće godine...eto, baš me zanima.

Nico Rosberg insists that Mercedes does not need to be battling for the world championship this year to judge its 2013 season a success.

Amid an increased focus on the team following the capture of Lewis Hamilton and a major management overhaul, Mercedes is under no illusions about how important this season will be.

But on the back of a difficult start to its pre-season testing programme at Jerez this week - with Rosberg having been stopped with an electrical problem and Hamilton crashing out – Mercedes has found out the hard way just how much work is needed.

Rosberg, however, thinks it vital that expectations are not raised too high, and he believes season-long consistency will be just as important as a few headline-grabbing performances.

"Improvement can be in being more consistent through the year, not like last year where we started okay and completely fell off," said Rosberg, referring to a 2012 campaign that started with the outfit fighting for wins but ending it struggling to score points.

"An improvement could also be a very okay car through the whole season, with a win or two, or something.

"But what we need is progress. We need to move forward and we need to go through this season thinking, 'okay we are on the right track to become the best'."

Rosberg returned to action for Mercedes at Jerez on Thursday, hoping for better luck after the troubles the team has encountered with its W04 so far.

Zato su i doveli Hamiltona. Ovome je izgleda dovoljno biti u bodovima.

Meni se on od prvog dana kada sam gledao njegov interview na njemackom rtl-u nije svidio.
Zadovoljava se sa " mrvicama ", umjesto da grize za sto veci komad "mesa" u ovom sportu.

Nico Rosberg is confident the late changes to Mercedes' management structure ahead of the 2013 Formula 1 season will not destabilise the team in any way.

Long-time Mercedes motorsport chief Norbert Haug stepped down in December, with ex-Williams man Toto Wolff taking his place last month.

There were also rumours of further major technical signings plus the ousting of team boss Ross Brawn, who ultimately stayed in his position.

Rosberg believes that because the core technical team, now led by Aldo Costa, was in place during 2012, the new W04's creation will not have been affected by the turbulence.

"This season shouldn't be affected much at all, not initially anyway because the main people in charge of building this car haven't changed," said Rosberg.

"So there is still a lot of stability in that region."

The German thinks the reshuffle at the top of Mercedes will ultimately be beneficial.

"Going forward, looking at the big decisions for next year and things like that, there are some big changes coming in," Rosberg said.

"And that's where these management changes will have effect, it's more long term.

"That is a good thing, because short term we need stability and long term, to become an even better racing team.

"I think change, to some extent, has been a good thing, and will be a good thing going forward."

Rozberg je odvezao odlicnu trku. Vecinu trke je bio brzi an stazi od hamiltona, ko je pratio vremena krugova zna da je tako. Bolje je vozio od Hamiltona. U Kini ocekujem da Mercedes uzme pobjedu.
