A large grid of 16 drivers attended this fun race with Black Magic (BM) taking the last slot on the grid due to PC problems.
Dunbar dominates...
Dunbar pole leads Hutch off the line only to be overtaken into the first corner by Hutch.
It is not long before Dunbar who has probably been waiting for his tyres to get up to temperature makes his move. Hutch and Dunbar seem initially evenly matched in race trim. However, Dunbar slowly and smoothly builds a dominant lead over Hutch.
BM's drive from the back...
By the time the cars reach Rainey Curve for the first time BM is up to 10th! But at T10 that is all wrecked when Swain Attard looses it and takes out Fiore. BM goes off trying to avoid Swain Attard but BM gathers it together and still goes over the start/finish line in 8th.
By lap 5 BM is up to 6th with 4ph3x chasing hard but at Rainey Curve BM goes in to hot and drifts wide onto the sand then corrects the slide but on regaining the track has a tank slapper moment as his car flips of the track again. BM regains the track in 9th his tires perhaps still dirty he loses it again at T11 allowing Sven Andersson (SA) to take ninth as they both go over the start/finish line.
Lap 6 just after T6 4ph3x has rejoined the track and seemingly not looking in his mirrors as SA approaches at full speed; we see a flash of brake lights but it is too little to0 late and the errant 4ph3x is booted off the track. BM has caught the hindered SA and makes his move down the inside at T6 and has ownership of the corner before the inside red marker. Unfortunately SA is committed to his line and as he turns in gently clips the back of BM this disturbs SA's car more that BM's and SA spins off and out of the race.
BM and 4ph3x have a good battle for 9 and 8th; on lap 3 4ph3x makes a lunge at T11 the bend the tight corner leading onto the start/finish straight but out brakes himself allowing BM to retake the place at the exit of the corner.
BM has a good close race with Armanini for many laps before making an error at the Corkscrew. On lap 13 BM catches and overtakes Armanini and finishes 6th
Kiro vs K1M1...
From lap 4 K1M1 and Kiro are racing close on lap 8 K1M1 has hit the tyre wall but manages to continue the race to end up very close to Kiro as they go over the finish line 3rd and 4th.
Hutch vs Swa...
Hutch, chasing hard after Dunbar has made few errors and has fallen back into the clutches of swa who seems to have smooth style of driving. Swa and Hutch become the main event of this race now that Dunbar has won this race provided he makes no mistakes.
For lap after lap swa and Hutch provide great entertainment as they battle cleanly for 2nd place in race of 16 cars. Only slight mistakes by each driver provide an opportunity for the other driver to make their move and gain briefly ascendance over the other driver. Unfortunately for us the battle comes to a flaming end on lap 12 as Hutch over revs his engine as they leave the Andretti Hairpin and head towards T3. Hutch's Porsche engine screams no more depositing very expensive engine components over the track.
In short a race enjoyed by many regardless of their finishing position.
