Re: Formula 1 team - BMW
Neke vijesti u vezi BMW-ea u zadnjih par tjedana:
Drivers not to blame for BMW's dismal season'
BMW team boss Mario Theissen insists his drivers "bare no blame" in the midst of BMW's dismal 2009 season.
After a stellar season in 2008, which saw BMW claim their breakthrough race win and finish third in the Constructors' Championship, much was expected of the German outfit this year.
But so far they have failed to deliver.
An ill-handling and slow-paced F1.09 has left both Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica lagging at the back of the midfield with just eight points being scored between the two of them.
However, team boss Thiessen insists Heidfeld and Kubica are not the ones at fault.
"The drivers bare no blame here," he told the team's official website.
"If we could provide them with a car, with which they could compete at the front of the field, then they would be doing just that. They have proven this often enough in the past
"Both Nick and Robert have handled the situation in a very professional manner.
"They are working intensively together with the engineers, discussing ways of solving the problems and, like everyone else in the team, are striving to finally get the team back to the top of the sport."
Meanwhile, Theissen added that although work has begun on next year's car, BMW haven't stopped developing this year's.
"We are already working on a new (2010) car, but it makes absolutely no sense to stop developing this car," the German said.
"Firstly, there are no dramatic changes to the regulations regarding aerodynamics. This means that everything we learn from what is still a new concept can be carried over to next year.
"Secondly, there is a ban on testing.
"If we stop developing the car in order to concentrate on the new one, then we can only develop behind closed doors. We would miss out on the opportunity to drive on the track.
"For that reason, it makes sense to continue to further develop this car as much as possible. The race weekends are our only test, so we must use these opportunities."
Kubica says 2009 not a wasted season
Robert Kubica believes that the 2009 season is not a wasted one in his career despite having scored just two points in the first eight races of the season.
Since losing out on a second-place finish in the Australian Grand Prix after a clash with Sebastian Vettel, Kubica has struggled even to be a points contender.
But despite having come into the season hoping to challenge for the title, the Pole still believes that this year is a valuable learning process.
"I don't think it's a wasted year," said Kubica when asked by AUTOSPORT whether he considered this season as a lost year. "This year we can learn a lot.
"As a team, as a driver, I think racing even for P15 can teach you new things. Driving a difficult car like we have can also improve you in some aspects.
"From a negative situation, we can take out some positives. If we can turn a negative part of the season into positive, it will be even better. The experience will help in the future."
Kubica does not believe that the upgrade package that BMW Sauber will try in free practice tomorrow, which includes a new version of the double decker diffuser, will make a big difference to the team's position even though it should improve the car.
"We have a few new parts like the diffuser, rear suspension, the revised front wing, so all in all we are expecting some improvement, but it's difficult to judge how big it will be," said Kubica.
"I don't think that it will change the situation a lot. Most of it will depend on how our car suits the track. I'm looking forward to testing the revised suspension to see if the driveability of the car can improve."
Despite this, Kubica says that he is fully focused on getting the best out of the F1.09 in the rest of the season, and is looking forward to finding out how big a difference the parts will make on track.
"I don't think I'm looking to next year because this year is not finished," he said. "There are still many races to go, and in our case especially that is good. We can use these races for development.
"Without testing, somehow you have to test in the races and I will be glad to see that we are bringing new parts and trying to understand which direction we have to go and where to improve.
"It sounds strange, because we are not fighting for top positions but it's good that after three weeks we are back in the car and we can to see if we are going in the right direction or not."
Heidfeld samples Superbike at BMW Sauber fan day
Although BMW Sauber’s 2009 season to date has been far from ideal, the team held a special day at the Nurburgring on Monday to thank the team’s fans and partners for their continued support. Drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica and BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen were all in attendance at the German track.
One of the highlights was the chance to watch Heidfeld sample rider Troy Corser’s BMW Motorrad Superbike, the German driver swapping his 700 horsepower (hp) Formula One car for the two-time world champion’s 200-hp motorcycle.
“It was a sensational experience - thank you to everyone!” said Heidfeld after climbing off the bike. “I already had lots of fun practising on the street bike in the morning, and managed to score the first scrapes into the knee area of my racing suit. That was inevitable. Of course I wanted to touch the ground while cornering on the racing machine as well, and I came up trumps there too.
“I had expected the Superbike to be a huge leap over the production version, a bit like series cars and racers, but I was surprised in the end. The difference is huge. On the one hand the Superbike is more aggressive, builds up more grip and has the superior brakes, but on the other hand it is easier to ride because you can control it so well. The handling is very precise. Obviously I’m still miles from the limit with the Superbike; I would love to have done a lot more laps.”
Corser, meanwhile, had the chance to drive Heidfeld’s Formula One car and clearly relished the experience, saying: “It was just awesome! The car feels so balanced and the brakes are fantastic, the tyres have unbelievable grip and the steering is very direct but still has a lot of feeling.
"I can’t believe how hard and late you can brake. I know I was braking too early and I really would like to have a day or two with the car to really see what I can do with it. I’d like to thank everybody involved in giving me this opportunity - and I hope I can do it again.”
Kubica was also in action driving his Formula One car around the short version of the circuit, while Spanish BMW Motorrad racer, Ruben Xaus, demonstrated his skills on his bike before sampling a BMW World Touring Car Championship car. For Theissen the fan support provided a much-needed boost.
“Above all in these difficult times, we are indebted to our partners and fans, and it’s really good to feel this support,” he said. “It’s easy to accept the accolades, and we’ve had plenty of them over recent years. But we must not let the dialogue falter when things get tough.”
Heidfeld, Kubica and Theissen will now journey to Budapest, ahead of this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix which will get underway on Friday.

Re: Formula 1 team - BMW

IZVOR: Sportske novostiFOTA ponudila pomoć posrnulom BMW-u!
